CLERK, SEXTON, ELECTIONS, FOIA COORDINATOR

Jeff Oswalt

joswalt@norvelltwp-mi.gov

(517) 536-4370 ext. 4

Hello, my name is Jeff Oswalt, and I am your Norvell Township Clerk, elected in November of 2020.
I’ve been a resident of Norvell Township since 1996, moving here with my wife Jennifer and son Joshua.
Before winning the November Election for Township Clerk, I had served on the township’s Planning Commission for 7 years. When I retired from my full-time job as a Resident Unit Manager with the Michigan Department of Corrections, I worked several part time jobs. I’ve always had a strong interest in township government, and a desire to work to improve my community in any way possible. When the opportunity came to run for Township Clerk, I felt this was an excellent opportunity to do so.

The Township Clerk’s responsibilities include:
Conducts elections and maintains voter files
Holding the position of sexton for the township’s cemetery
Maintains custody of all township records
Maintains General Ledger
Prepares township financial statements
Prepares warrants for township checks
Records, maintains and publishes township board meeting minutes
Keeps and maintains ordinance book and book of oaths
O.I.A. Coordinator (Freedom of Information Act)

In addition to the responsibilities named above, I have become a Notary Public and offer free notary services to the community. Just call the township hall (517-536-4370, Ext. 4) to make an appointment. Another high priority item is updating and computerizing the township cemetery records, updating the township’s cemetery ordinance, and a general clean-up of the cemetery as a whole.
In closing, I would like to thank all of the residents who supported me and voted for me, and to say I will do the best job possible to achieve my goal of making Norvell Township a great place to live.
